Annual Pitch Competition

The annual HackRPI Pitch Competition is back again this year! Come prepared to deliver and your team could win the $1000 prize!

The Severino Center at RPI is sponsoring a pitch competition where teams pitch a business idea (not necessarily related to their hackathon project) and the winning team receives a cash prize. Teams will prepare a 5 minute presentation, an elevator pitch, for their business plan that describes how you would take your product to market. The competition is open-ended and teams can pitch any product they have. The competition will be limited to the first 10 teams to register.

The Pitch Competition will start at 5:00 pm on Saturday, 11/12. If you're team is not ready to pitch when it is your turn, you will forfeit and a team will be added from the wait list.

2016 Pitch Competition Winners: Pocketician
Team members: Derek Ge, Srivatsan Srinivasan, Maruthi Koiloth, and Nishant Iyengar

Hacka-what?

The word "hackathon" is a portmanteau of the words "hack" and "marathon", where "hack" is used in the sense of playful, exploratory programming, not its alternate meaning as a reference to computer crime.” A hackathon is a time and a place for you to make something. Doesn’t matter if it’s a web app, a mobile app, a desktop app, or something in between.

But what if I can't code?

Doesn’t matter. Turn up. If you’re interested in learning how to code, a hackathon is the perfect environment. If you’re more of a design or business type of person, find a team and ship your idea in a day.

How big should teams be? Can I hack alone?

Teams can be at most 4 people to qualify for prizes. You can hack alone, but it'll be less fun! Teamwork is a valuable skill.

How will I get there?

We will be sending buses to as many regions as possible, based on registration numbers for each school. If you are coming from an area that we are not sending a bus to, we will also be offering a limited number of travel reimbursements. If you are traveling from outside the north-eastern United States, we most likely will not be able to provide travel reimbursement.

What should I bring?

Make sure to bring your laptop, phone, necessary chargers, your student ID, toiletries and anything else you may need to make yourself comfortable for 24 hours. You don't need to worry about food or drink -- we've got that covered.

Are high school students allowed?

Absolutely! If you are under 18 you will have to have a parent or legal guardian fill out your waiver prior to the event and you're good!

Will you have hardware available?

We provide hardware kits that don't require soldering, courtesy of MLH. We love hardware hacking and are looking into ways to allow you guys to make any kind of hardware hack you'd like.

My question wasn't answered!
